Call for Abstracts is Now Closed
The Scientific Programme Committee invites you to submit an abstract for consideration in the programme.

Physicians and Trainees, who are members of IMSANZ and other attendees, may submit abstracts to be considered for presentation at the IMSANZ Annual Scientific Meeting 2016.

All abstracts will be reviewed by the committee for inclusion in the oral presentations and poster sessions at the conference. Please note there are limited spaces available in the programme.

Deadline Date for Abstracts: 5.00pm (Western Australia Time), 24th June 2016


General Information

All abstracts should be original research. Broadly, this could also include an audit, a case report, or a description of a new
innovation in health services delivery or education; however, the onus is on the author to demonstrate the significance of
any work offered for this conference.

Physicians and Trainees, who are members of IMSANZ SOMANZ and other attendees, may submit abstracts to be considered for presentation at the IMSANZ & SOMANZ Combined Conference 2016.

Presentations

Oral Presentations —
If you are selected to offer an oral presentation you will need to prepare a 15 minute presentation (including Q&A).

You may choose to either present in the main Conference Programme, Trainee Breakfast or Best of Grand Rounds. 

Poster Presentations —
There will be a scientific poster display with programmed presentations and discussion periods. The poster panels
will be Velcro-sensitive and measure 1200mm high by 900mm wide (A0 portrait size). Your poster should cover the top half of the board. The poster should be laminated and the text should be in a font of sufficient size for easy reading at a distance of 1 metre.


Awards

The Ramesh Nagappan Memorial Prize for Advanced Trainees

This award will recognise and reward the valuable contribution made by Trainees. The award includes:

AUD$1500.00 — Awarded to the Oral Presentation Winner

AUD$750.00 — Awarded to the Oral Presentation Runner-up

AUD$750.00 — Awarded to the Poster Presentation Winner

To be eligible , you must meet the following requirements:
• A current IMSANZ Trainee Member
• A trainee of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and
• Not have previously won this award

SOMANZ President's Award

The SOMANZ President’s Award will be given to the best clinical presentation
by a junior SOMANZ member at the Annual Scientific Meeting. The award
is for AUD$1000.00 and will be judged by an expert panel throughout the
meeting and awarded on the final day.

SOMANZ Andrew Phippard Memorial Award

The SOMANZ Andrew Phippard Memorial Award will be given to the best
oral scientific presentation by a junior SOMANZ member at the Annual
Scientific Meeting. The award is for AUD$1000.00 and will be judged by an
expert panel throughout the meeting and awarded on the final day.

SOMANZ Best Poster Awards

The SOMANZ Best Poster Awards will be available during the Annual
Scientific Meeting. You must be a junior SOMANZ member to apply and must
be standing by your poster at a designated time during the conference. The
SOMANZ Poster Awards are to the value of AUD$500.00.


Abstract Format

Title: The abstract title should be in initial capital/lower case, not all capitals.

Authors: Authors’ names should be supplied in the surname-last format and should be in initial capital/lower case, not all capitals. Institutional affiliations should be indicated with superscript numbers following the author name.

Affiliation: All affiliations must state the authors’ institution, city and country.

Abstract Text: The abstract should be in the form of bolded structured headings (with blank line spaces between each section) as follows: Aims, Methods, Results, Conclusions. Sub headings may be used but should not be given separate paragraphs.

References: References may be included either “inline” in the abstract text or in a list following the abstract. The style of the references should follow either the Harvard or APA method.

Table: Tables may be included with abstracts and must be cited in the abstract text. The abstracts themselves must be in text, not table format.

Figures: All figures should be cited in the text 

The general specifications are:
• The maximum length of the abstract, including references, is 300 words.
• Abbreviations may be used but must be spelt out in full at the first mention followed by the abbreviation in parentheses


Submission General

You will receive confirmation by email that the abstract has been received. If you do not receive confirmation please
contact the Conference Organisers by emailing to conferences@w4u.co.nz

Your submitted abstract will be considered by the scientific committee for presentation. You will be notified of the status of your presentation by 22 July 2016. All presenters must register for the conference at their own cost.
